The layout and route of the kayak trip is provided by Outdoor Recreation. All equipment will be provided upon arrival at Roslyn Landing. Lessons start in June and last until August. The adventure is scheduled for the next date in 2022: June 8

The area is open on the first and third Sunday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Customers may only practice with the following legal weapons: pistols, muzzleloaders, shotguns, rimfire and centerfire calibers .17 to .223/5.56. The cost is $20 per person per day. Target is selling the set. POW Range does not provide eye/hearing protection or ammo.

This area is located across from Bldg. 15014 and open from Friday to Monday from 8 am to 8 pm. There are $5 per guest per day or annual passes that can be purchased for $30 for individuals or $40 for families. Archery instructions and equipment available if needed. To learn more about private archery group events, tournaments or lessons, please contact the Outdoor Recreation office. Beginners are welcome!
The fort has good shotgun shooting opportunities for all skill levels with two skits, two traps and one 5-stand area. Military personnel, military retirees, Ministry of Defense employees and civilians are welcome to use the area.
Open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The shooter pays $5 for each 25 target shot plus the cost of ammunition if purchased in the area. NOTE: The new prices (effective March 1st) are $5.00 for 25 clays, $15.50 for an ammo box, and $6.50 for gun rentals.
Registered Skeet Shooting is held for members of the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) every year from April to September. NSSA membership is available online at www.mynssa.com or can be purchased at shooting registration. Fun Shoots are held on the third Sunday in October through March. All skill levels compete on a level playing field with prizes usually divided into five categories based on scores. The skeet event has 50 goals: one regular skeet round and one double round. The trap event has 30 targets for 16 yards and 10 pairs of doubles. The five-stand event includes 50 goals in our selection of 5 Stands. Door prizes are awarded to all participants and food is almost always provided by one of the shooters. Shooters can participate in one or all three events and be high overall.
Free fishing is available at Roslyn Landing. Directions: Drive down Temple Avenue toward Colonial Heights, turn left at the lights onto Dimmock Parkway. After 1/4 mile, turn left at the Roslyn Landing sign. The public boat ramp is located behind the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter.
The wintering season of most local species ends in February. Nationally recognized, the James River and its tributaries top the list for largest catfish. In addition, there are several local lakes that are open to public fishing. Bank fishing is available for those who want to stay on the beach. John boats without outboard motors, canoes and kayaks can be rented from Outdoor Recreation.
