Area Code 81 - San Antonio is about to join the league of other major cities across the country -- it's about to get a new area code and 10-digit dialing. As part of our ongoing Growing Pains project, we look at what this means as part of our long-standing Growing Pains project. The 210 area code is not the one assigned to San Antonio. It might sound a bit like an episode of The Simpsons.
In The Simpsons, Homer struggles to fit in when his hometown of Springfield receives an additional area code.

"The call could not be completed as entered," says the recorded message. "Please check the number and make sure you have the correct area code." This shocks Homer. "Area code?! But it's a local call," he replied. Marge then told him that the Springfield phone company had run out of numbers and was offering another one.

"The continued explosion of homes, businesses and cell phones will require new area codes, and that will take a long time in San Antonio," Hadley said.
The Alamo City is expected to grow by another million residents by 2050, and San Antonio will get rid of the 210 area code in 2018. This doesn't mean we're going to lose the 210 area code, just add an extra area code for new phones.
"This is splitting Bexar County into two separate area codes," he added. "It's proven to be more dangerous."
Homer Simpson knows what it's like. When a part of Springfield got a new county code, it decided to become a completely separate city.

We may not have a football team either, but San Antonio will get a crossover with a second area code for that area. The same system is used in Dallas, Austin, Houston and many other major cities. This is a
"We're the last major city in Texas that doesn't have two area codes, and so I think it's a sign of a growth period and an opportunity to continue to grow," Perez said.
New homes, cell phones, or business numbers are assigned a new three-digit area code. The numbers have not been allocated yet.

Lopez said everyone in the area would have to dial 10 digits instead of the seven currently dialed on land lines.
"This requires printing additional numbers, so there is a concern and it can be for development, prosperity, our region is in a state of development," he added.
The ten-digit dialing is already familiar to cell phone users like Lilly Stefanaic, who moved to San Antonio two years ago.
"When they ask me for a phone number, they don't even tell me the area code first, it automatically knows what the area code is and gives me the full number," he said. like a big deal, I see it as a welcome to 2016."

Joyce Jefferson, on the other hand, has lived here since the 1960s and isn't crazy about adding extra digits.
"It's the same in Dallas, you can't just dial the number, you have to dial the area code, and I don't like that," Jefferson said.
Leah Chapa said her son, who is mentally challenged, has only recently learned to write phone numbers, and writing 10 digits can be difficult.
"By teaching him now that other people's area codes may be different, we have to educate him about this, which is a problem for people with special needs," she said.

The 210 area code has cultural significance for many San Antonians. It's in business names, people put it as a tattoo, and it's in art. Chris Hutchinson of San Antonio said the numbers 210 represent the city.
"You think about the other area codes in California, the major area codes in Houston, Dallas, that represents the community and the people," Hutchinson said. "I think when people hear 210, they think of culture, downtown, the United States Tower, the streets ... everything."
Longtime residents will remember that San Antonio shared the 512 area code with Austin. It was assigned 210 in 1992 and will be the Alamo City's only area code for 26 years when another one is adopted in 2018. The organization that assigns the second area code predicts that San Antonio will have two areas for another 33 years before development begins. still asks for a third area code for the area. This article lists the area codes for dialing in Brazil. Area codes are broken down regionally, showing the main cities in each region.
Local phone numbers in Brazil follow an eight-digit (nnnn-nnnn) pattern for landlines and a nine-digit (nnnn-nnnn) pattern for mobile phones. Mobile numbers have the same area codes as landlines, but the first digit distinguishes them. Landline numbers start with numbers 2 to 5. The first digits 6 to 9 are reserved for mobile numbers, but as of 2017 all mobile numbers in Brazil start with 9. (There are exceptions for iD mobile lines operated by Nextel. They are eight digits long and start with 7 and were disabled in 2018.)

In some exceptional cases, some area codes have state boundaries to cover interstate areas: area codes 304 and 681 are telephone area codes for the US state subdivisions of West Virginia in the North American Numbering System (NANP). The area code was created in October 1947 with area code 304 as one of the six original North American area codes. The 681 area code was added to the same area in a rescheduling on March 28, 2009.
Due to West Virginia's small population, the state was one of the last states in the early 21st century to have only one area code. With the growth of telecommunications services, especially the addition of cell phones, cell phones, and fax machines, reports in 2007 indicated that West Virginia would soon need a new area code.
On January 29, 2008, the West Virginia Board of Public Works voted 2-1 to split the 304 plan, with board chairman Michael Albert favoring overlap. The proposed split in Charleston and southern areas (Huntington, Bluefield, Beckley) would remain with the 304 area code, while the northern and eastern parts of the state (Wheeling, Morgantown, Clarksburg, Parkersburg) would receive a new area code. .
Communication service providers are in favor of redundancy, not fragmentation. They wanted to relieve northern West Virginia customers, especially in rural areas, of the burden of changing phone numbers, which would require resetting all cell phones. The layoffs have the effect of assigning a total of 15.6 million phone numbers to the state, affecting more than 1.8 million people.

Over the next two weeks, many state and local government officials and many business interests strongly opposed the separation and supported the layoff option. Governor Joe Manchin supported the measure. Several telecommunications providers filed a motion with the Public Service Commission on March 13, 2008, requesting a unanimous repeal. This was the first example of a state bus through a code that previously established an override system. This example was followed by Idaho, where area code 208 overlapped with area code 986 in 2017.
932 was reserved for use as a future area code in West Virginia, but was assigned the 304-932 exchange code in Charleston. West Virginia will not require another area code in the near future.
Dialing of local t-numbers in the existing 304 area code began no later than July 26, 2008. During this period, local 304 calls can also be dialed with seven digits. Mandatory t-digit area code
