Pistol Patent Day - Samuel Colt's first US patent for the pistol was granted on February 25, 1836, after an earlier patent was filed in England a few months earlier. Sometimes called Colt-Pearson, not to be confused with the later Colt-Patterson, the pistol prototype was built by Baltimore gunsmith John Pearson in 1835, a year before Colt applied for a patent. Colt-Pearson represents the first. A practical rotary cylinder gun.
The pistol was chambered for firing a 28-caliber projectile, and the six chambers were made into a small cylinder. The pistol used a folding trigger that would once again appear on Colt's commercially produced pistol, the Colt-Patterson. The pistol was loaded by removing the barrel and sliding the cylinder in what Colt describes as the "fulcrum pin".

In the patent drawings we can see the outline of a rifle stock (see image #3) where the rotating receiver can be inserted into a rifle stock. This is a concept that Colt has successfully returned to several times. Interestingly, there is also a spring-operated bayonet under the barrel of the pistol, which can be seen in the photo and Colt's original patent drawings above.

The prototype pistol did not go into production, and instead of further developing Colt's ideas, Colt-Patterson was manufactured in late 1836 at the Patent Arms Company's factory in Paterson, New Jersey. The pistol was produced until 1841, when the Patent Arms Company went bankrupt. The pistol is currently part of the American West's Autry National Center Collection in Los Angeles.

Did you know that the first pistols have been around for almost 500 years? Pistols, pistols and other side weapons have played an important role in shaping how civilizations developed. Over the centuries, new patents were received, which led to the emergence of modern weapons. Pistol Patent Day is celebrated to commemorate 1835, when Samuel Colt received a patent for the revolver. Today we look at the life and times of visionary Samuel Colt.
The word pistol first appeared in sixteenth-century Europe when the first portable firearms were designed to be fired on horseback. The word is said to be derived from the French word 'pistole'. Another story says it may come from the Czech word 'píšťala' meaning whistle or pipe. Some say the pistol derives from the word 'pistola', which derives from the name of Pistoia, a city famous for Renaissance weapon production.

Pistols appeared in the nineteenth century. Samuel Colt patented the first revolver in 1835. A year later he received a patent for the American model. The firearm embodied the basic principles of rotary breech loading. He included the colt-trigger firearm, which he named Colt Patterson, in his patent. It is said that Colt never received praise for inventing the pistol. He believed that Collier had created a more practical version of the rotating flintlock. Colt's new design featured replaceable parts, and the percussion cap made ignition more reliable, faster, and safer than a flintlock.
In 1916, Steyr M1912 was born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Steyr M1912 was capable of firing fully automatic rounds. This was a revolutionary invention that changed the understanding of firearms and paved the way for modern weapons. Since then, many cutting-edge, cutting-edge fully automatic pistols have been born that delight shooters.
Pistol Patent Day was created to commemorate the anniversary of the day Samuel Colt patented the first pistol. Today, people look back at the life and time of Samuel Colt and are inspired to make remarkable new patents.
